Response: [NetworkAztlan_News] Video: REVOLUTION: Why It's Necessary, Why It's Possible, What It's All About

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
Comment: I for one am thankful that you shared this KEY LINK
with us all, as I in turn will share with it with others. It is from
2003 by Robert Avakian.

http://www.revolutiontalk.net/films/

It is a series of lengthy videos that cover a wide range of key
topics that should be of interest and enlighten many of us.

I just hope there is no reactionary reflex because of the use
of the term 'communist' or the 's' word= socialism!

I believe that for socialism to be really relevant it is going to have
to be its establishment on a global level, not merely national.
It must topple the present global corporate state system and
the concept of commnism in terms of a stateless no longer seems
attainable, if it ever  was other than various forms of it in ancient
indigenous societies.

All the socialist liberated territories, which have never had a
real chance to mature under global corporate capitalism and
imperialism, have had to strengthen their state powers along
with their standing armies.

I appreciate its emphasis on a 'mass line', on having a good clear
understanding of the 60's and what has gone down in the last few
decades, including the role of the Black Panther Party, on the role
of the masses and especially the role of women in our struggles.

Just take the time to check it out for yourself and don't get paranoid!
Our mortal enemies are dinosaurs fearing their own eventual extinction.
Plus, our other enemies are within in terms of our own character defects,
our own false assumptions, our own personal shortcomings and Lord
knows our own inner demons.

I myself believe in the Great Creator but that is my truth. It is up to each
of us to discover our own truth in harmony with our own experiences
and wise understanding.

REVOLUTION: Why It's Necessary, Why It's Possible, What It's All About
a film of a talk by Bob Avakian

Online at: http://www.anonym.to/?http://www.revolutiontalk.net/

In 2003 Bob Avakian, Chairman of the Revolutionary Communist Party USA delivered an historic talk in the United States. This talk, followed by questions and answers, is a wide-ranging revolutionary journey, covering many topics. It breaks down the very nature of the society we live in and how humanity has come to a time where a radically different society is possible. It takes us deep into the heart of the horrors we see around us – from the oppression of whole peoples and parts of the world to what underlies brutal wars of domination – and why we live in a world where profound poverty, starvation and exploitation co-exist with unprecedented wealth. From the American nightmare to a sweeping vision of a whole new world, he breaks it all down, and shows how and why a radically different world can be brought forward. This film is full of heart and soul, humor and seriousness. It will challenge you and set your heart and mind to flight.

There is nothing online like THIS talk of Bob Avakian's: nothing that answers the questions of why we are in the situation we are in... what is the source of the problem... and what is the nature of the solution. Nothing that gets at these questions as deeply, thoroughly and truthfully as this. Millions of people are searching for the truth, and watching videos, short and long. Some of these give part of the answer; but some of them—including some of the most popular—give people bullshit answers, pointing people in the wrong direction and spreading poison. Here, and all over the world, people need to see Revolution: Why It's Necessary, Why It's Possible, What It's All About.

"Quite frankly, many people have never heard anyone say the things Chairman Avakian said, or have ever heard anyone talk about this world, this social system, this society, and another possible society and way of living in the way he did before. This talk addressed questions that literally millions of people all over the world are agonizing over at this moment." [A communist artist]

"It's like we're in a situation where we don't know where to go. It feels like an atmosphere of distrust, fear of the future, instability. I feel like there are no guidelines or parameters on where to go. But I think Bob Avakian has a plan full of hope in the face of uncertainty that weighs on people." [Comment by a woman after showing of the DVD Revolución in Mexico City]

"In times like these, this clear voice for social change is a welcome relief from all the confusion and lies. Listen, and you will truly hear a voice of reason, with sharp analysis and deep understanding, going up against the tide of injustice and oppression. Of crucial importance is the fearless opposition to the rise of the Christian right and its pernicious effect on the political and cultural life in this country. While you might not agree with everything he says, he will challenge you with his insights and a clarion call to what must be done. " [Reverend Earl Kooperkamp, Pastor, St. Mary's Church, Harlem, NYC*]

"He was showing the kind of system we live in and what it does to all humanity... he was inviting people to rise up their sights, their views and look at things at this moment of history we're in and the need to transform and change things." [A young construction worker from Latin America]

"I heard Bob Avakian speak last year on the urgent and timely issue of revolution: why it's necessary, why it's possible, and what must be done to bring revolution about… His explanation of the workings of the imperialist system – and how the struggle of the people can get rid of it and replace it with a just and equitable society – was powerful and uplifting… This speech needs to be heard by others. It could take many more people onto the path toward that world liberation." [Yuri Kochiyama]

A lengthy yet fascinating lecture by Bob Avakian, the Chairman of the Revolutionary Communist Party of the United States. In his first public appearance since 1979, Avakian offers an astute critical analysis of American politics and the Maoist tactics that he believes can bring about revolutionary change. Although 20th century history has demonstrated the complications inherent in achieving the Communist ideal, Avakian puts forth a compelling case that a revolutionary program is what contemporary America needs (if not necessarily what it desires). [Facets Multimedia]

"… [Avakian's] communist analysis is graceful, and he lucidly explains concepts ranging from dialectical materialism to irony without condescending to his audience. Like a Richard Pryor concert film, Revolution cuts between different versions of the same material in this case, the same all-day lecture given on the east and west coasts in 2003. He's no less sharp when he's answering questions than when he's outlining his revolutionary program…" [Jonathan Rosenbaum, Chicago Reader critic, August 20, 2004]

"I highly recommend this talk as a starting place for study or an update to review the Marxist Leninist Maoist approach. Bob Avakian hurls an impassioned, articulate challenge to capitalism and US imperialism. Women's liberation cannot be achieved without defeating these forces, therefore Avakian's presentation is an important contribution." [Carol Downer, Founder, Federation of Feminist Women's Health Centers*]

"Whatever your political orientation or religious background, this comes across as a challenge that must be heard and wrestled with. There is great depth and seriousness in Bob Avakian's analysis of a situation which most of us have failed to fully recognize. But he is confident that we can create a viable future for the planet. " [Reverend George W. Webber, President Emeritus, New York Theological Seminary*]

"Bob Avakian, a thinker and activist of remarkable critical insights, sums up the lessons he has learned and the conclusions he has determined during more than thirty years of activism and leadership and guides present and future activists through a tough course which leads to the understanding of the imperatives for a new society." [Dr. Juan Gómez Quiñones, historian and writer, UCLA*]

"It was like hearing Mao speak on the Long March." [A young Black proletarian woman]

"If my people had a leader like this, we would have been free a long time ago." [A young worker from the Mixtec national minority of Mexico]

"He speaks from the heart and at the same time with such a sweeping understanding, with total resolution, and not just with hatred for the bourgeoisie but confidence in the masses of people." [a young immigrant woman from South Asia]

"When I first started watching the Revolution DVD it was like a book I couldn't put down. Bob Avakian is unsparing in shining a light on the darkest aspects of American history and the capitalist system that underlies it. No American should allow fear, pride or prejudice against Avakian because of his communist beliefs, to keep them from facing these truths about their country. Avakian did not just fall out of the sky the other day to preach revolution. He was part of some of the signature movements of the 1960's: the Berkeley Free Speech Movement, SDS and the Black Panther Party for Self-Defense. He has been observing and studying the decline of the American political system for decades. Bob Avakian has much that is relevant to say to us. Watch this DVD!" [progressive democrat]

"A journey to be savored." [a veteran communist]

"I loved everything about it, including its presentation and its factual basis. In this talk, Bob Avakian says, 'White supremacy is built into the foundation of this country.' I agree with that and I think it's impossible to remove under the current system of government…

"When Emmett Till was murdered for whistling at a white woman in 1955, we were devastated and felt the same concern. As young Black men, we didn't know whether they would come after us or not for playing basketball in the south. Our team was the first integrated team to play at the college level in the south. When we played in Oklahoma, the fans called us 'N....,' and yelled, 'Get those n..., off the court!' They threw nickels and quarters at us while we were playing and called us Globetrotters. The Black players weren't allowed to stay in the hotel. Our team met and decided that we were all going to stay together, so the white and Black players stayed at the University of Oklahoma university dorms. When we won that game, we celebrated by ourselves in the empty dorm... The attitude of the fans and the white society overall was that we shouldn't be playing in the first place. Not only were we playing, but we beat everyone we played against…

"This experience of oppression for Black people is going to continue and it will get worse, unless there's a change. I believe a revolution will have to come about for it to change." [Hal Perry, (1933-2009), former basketball player, on listening to "They're selling postcards of the hanging"]

"Avakian, speaking in public in the U.S. last year for the first time since 1979, offers a full plan for revolutionary transformation, and he gets the attention of Black Americans right away on these four DVDs in his passionate discussion of lynching, police brutality, racial profiling and issues pertinent to African Americans.

"Recalling the vicious assaults on Claude Neal, Mary Turner and Emmett Till, Avakian provides a brutal and bloody outline of tragedy, and does it with a fervor that is far too uncommon coming from the mouth of a white man. I can think of only Tim Wise who comes close to genuinely evoking white sympathy as he assails racism and white supremacy." [The Revolution may not be televised, but it's on film by Herb Boyd, The Amsterdam News, August 5, 2004]

Ousted Honduran Leader Seeks Tougher U.S. Stance Against Coup~ NY Times + Comment

Ousted Honduran Leader Seeks Tougher U.S. Stance Against Coup

WASHINGTON — Manuel Zelaya, the deposed president of Honduras, called on the United States to match its strong words of condemnation for the coup that ousted him with actions — asking the Obama administration to cut off tens of millions of dollars in assistance to the de facto government and freeze the visas and assets of those
involved in plotting his overthrow.

Mr. Zelaya said he appreciated the numerous statements President Obama had made in his defense since June 28 when Honduran soldiers rousted him from bed and loaded him, dressed in his pajamas, onto a plane leaving the country.

Yet without tougher actions, he said, Mr. Obama's statements had begun to ring hollow, hardening the intransigence of those who deposed him, and signaling to Latin America that the United States put politics above democratic principles.

"He's risking his prestige in Latin America," Mr. Zelaya said. "We are not asking him to intervene. We are asking him to be consistent with democratic principles. And if he does that, Latin America will applaud."

His remarks came moments after a speech at George Washington University and a day before he was scheduled to meet Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton.

A senior State Department official rejected Mr. Zelaya's criticism, saying that the United States had exerted more pressure than any other country to restore Honduran democracy.

The administration has cut some $22 million in government assistance, including $16 million in military aid, the official said. It has also revoked a handful of diplomatic visas from members of the de facto government, and it recently stopped issuing all nonimmigrant visas at the American Embassy in Honduras.

"I would contest that this situation can be resolved with easy formulas," the official said. "This situation is complex. If it weren't it would have already been resolved."

So far, the reviews of Mr. Obama's handling of the Honduras crisis have been mixed. Initially, the administration won praise throughout the hemisphere for condemning the coup in no uncertain terms and collaborating with other countries in the region to
resolve the crisis rather than taking unilateral action.

But with talks on restoring Mr. Zelaya at an impasse, there have been charges that the United States was sending mixed messages, publicly saying that it supports Mr. Zelaya's return but refusing to use all its economic influence in Honduras to force the de facto government to resign.

"If they can't get the cast of characters in Honduras to behave the way they want them to," said Julia E. Sweig of the Council on Foreign Relations, "how are they going to deal with Afghanistan or Iran?"

The longer the political crisis in Honduras continues, the more of a conundrum it
threatens to create for Mr. Obama. A handful of Congressional Republicans, backed by a well-connected group of lawyers and lobbyists, have mobilized in support of the de facto government, accusing Mr. Zelaya of illegally trying to change the Constitution so that he could run for another term.

They have held up crucial State Department appointments to pressure the administration not to impose sanctions against Honduran leaders.

A clash also appears to be brewing between the administration and some Latin American countries over whether to recognize the Honduran election scheduled to take place this autumn. Several countries, including Brazil, Mexico and Chile, have said they would not recognize an election overseen by the de facto government.

The United States, Canada and Caribbean countries have so far not taken a formal position, saying that an election may be the only peaceful way to end the conflict
that has polarized Honduras.

Presidential campaigning began on Tuesday there, and in a televised address the head
of the de facto government, Roberto Micheletti, said the contest would show the world that democracy was alive and well in Honduras.

"This process will serve to categorically show that we appreciate democracy, that we are a people who want to live in harmony," Mr. Micheletti said, according to The Associated Press.

Mr. Micheletti, who is not a candidate, added that an election was the "only and definitive solution to the political crisis."

But Mr. Zelaya said the coup undermined Hondurans' faith in democracy and in the rule
of law.

"Any elections without my presence would not end the crisis in my country," he said. "They would only deepen the crisis."

Mr. Zelaya said that in his State Department meetings on Thursday he would ask Mrs. Clinton to clarify several issues. He said he would ask why, two months after he was forced from power, the State Department had not formally determined that his ouster fit the legal definition of a military coup, which would require the United States to definitively cut aid currently considered "on pause."

He also said he would ask the United States to formally condemn the human rights abuses, including attacks against union leaders, journalists and others who support him, that have been reported by groups like Amnesty International and the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights.

The State Department official, who was granted anonymity because he was not allowed
to speak publicly, acknowledged that tens of millions of dollars, including development and humanitarian aid, had not been interrupted because of concerns about the impact
on a country where more than half of all people live in extreme poverty.

Officials close to both Mr. Zelaya and Mr. Micheletti said that although formal negotiations seemed to be going nowhere, informal talks between Mr. Zelaya and his opponents had begun, raising hopes that a settlement could be reached.

The State Department official said, however, that the de facto government had used talks to stall for time, and he warned that the United States was prepared to take tougher measures if it still refused to relent.

Next week, the board of directors of the Millennium Challenge Corporation, which is headed by Mrs. Clinton and financed by the United States, will meet to decide whether
to cut off its aid to Honduras, which includes $215 million over four years.

Comment: So it will be another successful coup in Latin Amerika. Chicanos here
not inside the United States are powerless to do anything about it, despite our
POTENTIAL POWERS! Where is the liberation movement inside the United States?
Or rather, IS THERE A LIBERATION MOVEMENT INSIDE THE UNITED STATES!?!?!?

Memories will fade, events will become historical background for those who remember
and it will be business as usual for the fascist corporate state!

By his very position President Obama is a fascist in dark face. Now the U.S.A.

is getting caught up in Afghanistan... another fascist fiasco. The Amerikan
Dream has become a nightmare for many millions inside the United States
and continues to play the bad cop on a global scale, creating more enemies!
Another 911 is right around the corner! Stay alert, stay alive!

The Power of Personal Healing: Posted By Luis J. Rodriguez on August 31, 2009

The Power of Personal Healing

Posted By Luis J. Rodriguez on August 31, 2009

For fifteen years, I've taken part as a teacher/poet in the Mosaic Multicultural Foundation's annual men's conferences in the Redwood Forest near Mendocino. In that time I've also participated in youth conferences, "Voices of Youth, Voices of Community," "Poetics of Peace," "Walking With," and other Mosaic projects in collaboration with Michael Meade, Mosaic's founder, and teachers such as Jack Kornfield, Orland Bishop, and Malidoma Some. I can't express how valuable these have been for my life, my artistic work, and my community activism.

This past week at the Woodlands Camp in Mendocino, I brought with me my almost 21-year-old son Ruben (he'll be 21 next month) to a week-long men's conference. I'm
very close with my two youngest sons, Ruben and Luis. I didn't know that there was still room to get closer. Ruben and I had a great time joined by 100 other men (from all walks
of life, economic backgrounds, races, sexual orientations, and spiritual paths) who were willing to delve deep, listen, and hold the ground for all the participants. Ruben played a strong role that week. And we learned to see each other in more meaningful and respectful ways.

We're already talking about my 15-year-old son Luis taking part in a few years. Both
Ruben and I love and care about Luis very much. A strong community of men will be much welcomed.

I want to thank all the men who took part, made sure Ruben was attended to, and who assisted all of us who underwent some difficult but necessary struggles, including the teaching staff.

In the past, I've had my oldest son Ramiro take part. We were much more estranged and embattled at the time, but I know these experiences have helped us over the years,
even as Ramiro underwent twelve years of incarceration in the Illinois Department of Corrections. We've gotten closer in those years, and this kind of powerful teaching, learning, creativity, and imagining has been key. Ramiro is now 34 and should be released in two more years.

This experience has also helped me with my daughter, Andrea, who is 32, a single mother, and a hero for me. She's now directing a preschool program and has raised a beautiful, intelligent and talented 13-year-old named Catalina. We've had hard times, Andrea and I, but I know we love each other and somehow manage to finds ways through any hardships.

Two weekends ago, my granddaughter Anastasia underwent a Womanhood Ceremony in the Mexika and Lakota native traditions in Illinois. A community of women stepped up

to help her with talking circles, sweat lodge ceremonies, and the preparation for her acknowledgment as a young woman. Anastasia is now fifteen. Others wrote letters of support while members of her family–from both her father and mother's side–took part. I thank everyone for being there for Anastasia, in particular the Blazquez Family (Frank, Lou, Tanee and Frankie). Also Camila Thompson, Anastasia's grandmother, and Andrea, who both worked hard to make sure this ceremony would happen. And, of course, special thanks to Anastasia's mother, Laura, and all her family who took part–I'm truly grateful.

In addition, earlier this year my other granddaughter, Amanda May, graduated from middle school in Sterling, IL. She's a great student and writer, which I found out when I spoke at her school last year. My grandson, Ricardo, who turns 17 this year, came to the graduation ceremonies with his mother all the way from Orlando, Florida. I couldn't be there, but it

was quite the family reunion.

In the crush of trying to survive the hard economic and political realities, we have to keep finding healing paths for our families and ourselves. Although I'm personally guided in this by indigenous spiritual practices, I'm open to other cultures and spiritual paths. There's much to learn from connecting and sharing.

Presently, my wife Trini and I (and our brother-in-law, Hector Herrera) are preparing to take part in a Vision Quest in the Pine Ridge Reservation this September. This involves the making of prayer ties and doing fasts. I see this as a vital step in our entering a new stage of eldership for our community. Again, I thank Frank and Lou Blazquez for their guidance, and Lakota elder Ed Featherman for his teachings.

This is a time of change, but also of healing.

Astronaut Hernandez carries Mexican Air ForceWWII Flag Into Space

I know that most ofyour supporters are aware that Astronauts mission specialist Jose Hernandez and Danny Olivas are on the Discovery shuttle flight.  Perhaps they don't know however, that Astronaut Hernandez carried a historicalMexican flag with him into space?

The flag was from Escuadron 201 a unit of Mexican pilots that trained with American pilots in WWII and fought in the Philippines with the U.S.

Victor Mancilla, film producer, completed a beautiful documentary on the history of Escuadron 201. However, that historic alliance, which epitomizes the friendship and cooperation between the United States and Mexico is unfortunately little known.

Victor is preparing to complete a companion documentary to the Escuadron 201, The Last Flight of the Aztec Eagles.  The film will end by tying the historical connections of U.S./Mexico in space through the symbol of the Escuadron 201 flag.

Victor madearrangements with Astronaut Hernandez to carry the Escuadron 201 flag into space. The space shuttle Discovery is
suppose to return to Houston in another week.  Victor will be in Houston to record for posterity the return of the flag to members of Escuadron 201 Society.

The flag is symbolic of the friendship that was and should always exist between the U.S. and Mexico.  Plus, it appears that some cooperation and sharing of space technology is currently underway between the United States and Mexico. Victor can fill you in on more of the details.  He is very much in touch with contacts in both Mexico and NASA.

I hope that you will share this information. I think the story of a farm field worker of Mexican heritage who becomes a U.S. astronaut through education, and with pride takes part of his heritage into space is very moving.  Our kids can succeed and give back, while taking pride in their ancestry.

I have been in support of Victor's work since I first became aware of it.  Below is a summary of his vision and his contact information.

The Last Flight of the Aztec Eagles

A Tribute to Mexico's Heroes of World War II

The Last Flight of the Aztec Eagles

An Unprecedented Film Tour to Promote

Binational Solidarity & Friendship

- Executive Summary -

____________________________________________

The Film

In 2004, noted documentary filmmaker Victor H. Mancilla and executive producers Roger and Felicity Marrs begun work on a unique project: the first comprehensive and accurate film about Mexico's participation with The United States in the struggle to free a former sister colony in World War II.

Painstakingly researched, The Forgotten Eagles was filmed over four years in the United States, Mexico and the Republic of the Philippines. A masterful blending of

rare archival footage, photographs and documents, plus interviews with surviving Mexican, American and Filipino veterans, the film was completed in September of 2006. With an introduction by acclaimed actor Edward James Olmos, The Forgotten Eagles is a testament and tribute to the courage of an heroic group of officers and men who have come to symbolize Mexico's participation in the greatest fight for human rights in history.

The Aztec Eagles

Fighter Squadron 201 of the Mexican Expeditionary Air Force was a high-profile

Intergovernmental project initiated by joint personal approval of the presidents of

The United States and Mexico during World War II to aid the Allied nations' fight against totalitarianism and to foster inter-American solidarity.

Squadron 201 was an elite, volunteer unit, comprised of the best fighter pilots and

Aviation support specialists in the Mexican Air Force. Its personnel received advanced training in the U.S. before joining an American combat unit in the Pacific Theater. The "Aztec Eagle" pilots of the squadron flew 59 hazardous close air support missions on the main island of Luzon, the Philippines, in 1945, to help

liberate the Filipino people from the Japanese occupation.

The unit received high honors from the United States, Mexico and the Philippines for

Valor and sacrifice in the cause of freedom. It was and is, the only Mexican military force ever to see combat outside of Mexico and the only one to serve with United States Armed forces; the men are respected national heroes in Mexico. Participation of Squadron 201 in World War II led to better political and relations between the United States and Mexico and approval of important postwar treaties.

The Last FIight of the Aztec Eagles - Mission and Scope of Project

The Forgotten Eagles film has received superlative reviews. The documentary was shown at the prestigious Los Angeles Latino International Film Festival and at the Smithsonian Institution, National Air and Space Museum, in Washington D.C.

It has been acclaimed by the Mexican Ambassador to the United States and a copy

presented to the President of Mexico.

Now Eravision Films, Project Uplift an advocacy organization and other entities, had started a groundbreaking international tour of this important film. With high-profile presentations in cities in the U.S. Portland, Oregon, Washington, D.C., Los Angeles, New Mexico, San Antonio, Dallas, Houston, Chicago, Mexico (Mexico City, Guadalajara) and the Philippines (Manila), this will be an unprecedented exercise in international goodwill, friendship and neighborliness.  Additional objectives are to promote distribution of the film to all Mexican consulates in the world, to American consulates in Mexico and to students in Mexico, the United States and the Philippines as part of the curriculum for future generations.

The film's producer/director, Mr. Victor Mancilla, surviving veterans of Fighter Squadron 201 who are able to travel, will accompany the film on tour and will appear

In person at each screening and be a part of the presentation. The Tour will be filmed in its entirety for posterity.

Additional Objectives

The Last Flight of the Aztec Eagles tour is expected to foster the creation of other, worthwhile and related historical projects. These include:

1.     A broadcast-quality, edited video or documentary of the tour.

2.     A book about the making of The Forgotten Eagles to accompany the film.

3.     A commemorative sculpture depicting Mexico's participation in the war.

4.     A documentary film about the search for a missing Squadron 201 pilot and plane.
