Gracias Otra Vez Enrique~ I have been a long supporter of Raza Unida Party, including when Corky was around. I remember seeing him speak about our common denominators whether we consider ourselves Chicanos, Mexicanos or Hispanics. One time others and myself were on the bodyguard team for a tour he did of Sacra and the Bay Area. Alas, that was lifetimes ago and the whole social scene has been transformed since those early days of the Chicano Movement.
Nowadays, I have a multi-racial approach to the 'lucha' and mass struggle that encompasses all of the Third World of Latin America, Asia and Africa, including our internal Third World colonies inside the continental
In the new millenium, the power of the Internet is of course a key high-tech factor in us getting our Messages out and raising our collective general consciousness, but it must be balanced and coupled with real work offline in our local communities involving:
1. Cadre building to nurture new leadership
2. Social-political education to raise consciousness
3. Mass literacy so we can all read and write, and
4. Voter registration with an emphasis on voting on voting day!
As a distinct people, Latinos are still handicapped with not having a central strong political vanguard party with revolutionary goals and that defect will continue to haunt all of our activities. We have no general strategy and related set of tactics that is radical, realistic and relevant to our general situation. Many of us do not even know the difference between a strategic overview and a tactical consideration and thus confuse the parts with the whole, the tempoary with the protracted, the immediate situation with a global overview.
We cannot merely reform a decaying society in a collapsing civilization under a failed state. Immigration reform is not the answer. Revolution is the ultimate solution. What form that radical transformation takes in terms of turning violent or not is really up to the masses worldwide, not vanguard elements alone. Latinos are only a part, though a key part, of the big picture, especially Latinos inside the
As we seek to exhaust all legal peaceful methods of mass struggle we must come to grips with the reality that the gun is still the tool of liberation and a potential violent showdown cannot be put off forever. How many of us are working out and studying the martial arts? Eventually certain leading vanguard elements will be attacked by the fascist regime and its natural self-defense mechanisms. This is as predictable as nightfall.
Amerikan Fascism is not sweating now about any Latino Liberation Movement because we have no solid vanguard leaeership with a vanguard organization that poses a threat to the established unjust order. Plus, we do not want to isolate ourselves as Latinos. Remember the lessons of the Black Panther Party!
We should really examne the immediate relevancy of the Raza Unida Party and other cultural-nationalist political groups in these post-911 times. There have already been great strategic blunders in regards to the whole immigrant rights movement as there must be the inclusion of actual undocumented immigrants at all decision-making levels, basic fundamental mass mobilization and community-based infrastrucutres composed of offices, clinics and other survival programs that are relevant to the basic common needs of the people for the Movimiento to have a real 'presence'. Mere periodic marches, rallies and banner-waving alone are not enough and will fade away without daily local community work to sustain a real mass movement. A movement must move and move forward!

I'm in a similar situation. I have not been heavily active with PNLRU for some time now and was cleaning out this email box to try and begin the re-starting process. But it seems best I focus on Albuquerque and not try to take on too much at this time.Amor y Rebeldia,

What if you forget "the planet" and concentrate on finding a place where you can feel at home for the rest of your life? What if you shape your work so that it serves your spirit, your loved ones, your friends and neighbors? Would it matter in the long run? What if you tend the land and water in your own neighborhood and feel good about it because it is the best and only service you can perform for Planet Earth? - John Taylor GattoJoin La Raza Unida NM!
